In The Curious Life of Vegetables, Ali Francis looks beyond the produce aisle to uncover the surprising stories behind more than 125 vegetables—from the humble beet to the botanical curiosity of the tomato. Blending food history, science, and storytelling, she explores rare, heirloom, overlooked, and everyday vegetables—and the larger questions of biodiversity, flavor, memory, and the invisible forces that determine what ends up on our plates.

The stories are accompanied by gorgeous botanical illustrations from artist Adriana Picker, inspired by antique botanical art.
